Push hoes

This section contains hoes which cut through soil and weeds on the push stroke. The prime example of this is the classic Dutch hoe, shaped like a stirrup and with a single cutting edge at the front. Their blades should be nice and sharp so don't be afraid to sharpen them with a stone or file. A sharp hoe will do it's job with far less effort from the user. We sharpen ours if they need it. The ideal time for hoeing weeds is when the soil surface is on the dry side and the weeds are small and if it's breezy as well, all the better. Weeds are more likely to shrivel and die in these conditions.
